Philosophy

Cross Country is a sport in which athletes compete by running over varied terrain. Cross country is a varsity sport but we do not cut athletes. As part of the Wilson Cross Country team you will be joining some of the most loving, dedicated, supportive teammates you can find. As a team we have a few focus points.

Training and Competition

Practice: M-F 3:30-5:30pm

Practice consists of distance runs, intervals, speed work, core workouts, form drills and more. All workouts are geared toward the experience and ability of each runner. New runners will start with slow short runs and work up. We believe in developing young runners through a safe build up of workouts.

Competition

Races are typically 5k (3.1 mi.) or 3k (1.9 mi.) and are held in local parks. We have competitions about once a week.

Family Dinners (Pasta Feeds)

One of the athletes favorite parts of cross country is the team bonding at our pasta feeds. The night be-fore competitions we gather as a team at a teammates home and as a team provide dinner, salad, drinks, and desert. The runners bond, joke, play and eat.

Summer Running

Over the summer we meet at Wilson High School to go for summer training runs. Every athlete is encouraged but not required to participate. Summer runs vary in distance based on each runner’s experience and ability. ALL are welcome, returners and beginners alike. If you have any questions please feel free to contact either coach.
